May and July in Phoenix are so hot, especially downtown in the major metropolitan area as to be considered an actual crime. I have seen the realest stereotypes about hot weather. Egg-on-sidewalk, melted sneakers and cookies on the dash. It’s all real in Arizona, but there’s something else that’s real too.

Phoenix Fan Fusion is one of the largest conventions in the great desert, it’s been around for a heck-of-a-long time in internet years. Here’s why we keep going: because some of our favorite things ever happened at Phoenix Fan Fusion. Here’s a handy little guide to some of the things you’ll run into.

Literally Any Panel Hosted By Fakku . Net
I’ve never “done the nasty” but if you’re a fan (like our own writer, Violet Redfield) of art that depicts it that can get all kinds of hilariously debauched, these are absolutely the kind of events you need to check for. Fakku.net is the western worlds largest purveyor of hentai, and these panels cover everything from the humble beginnings to some of the worst sins ever committed to the genre of horny animation.

That Phoenix Fan Fusion continues to play host to some of the goofiest aspects of fandom is one of the reasons we keep showing back up. Everybody has a voice, even people like us.

Uncle Yuki’s Storytime Theatre
“Uncle Yuki” is kind of like a star of the small con circuit, well established in the culture of conventions themselves. A hilarious and natural storyteller, Yuki’s panels are almost always an absolutely delight. They chronicle everything from after-convention parties, awkward run ins with cosplayers and the trials and tribulations of being a nerd in the backwater southwest.

Yuki’s panels, like Fakkus, are often an adults only event.

Getting To Know Independent Artists
You can walk up to booths for guys who worked for Marvel and DC to sell you prints of their art, or commission them to draw characters they were already going to draw. Or hear us out here, you could do the same thing to struggling independent artists who work around the clock with few days off on their own passion projects. You might get introduced to something that isn’t about people who punch people and wear brightly colored outfits.

The Friends You’ve Made Along The Way
It’s no secret to our brand that without the people that support us and allow us to be seen with them in public we wouldn’t even exist. Phoenix Fan Fusion is where we connected with a great deal of them, from artists that blessed us with the opportunity to interview them, to the friends who let us pass out in their hotel room after crushing the hotel bar and promising we were going to do work first thing in the morning. Phoenix Fan Fusion brings so many disparate communities together you’re bound to make a friend or two.

So that’s the whole story, and why you’ll be able to see us May 23 through the 26th.

We’ve been doing this too long to not go to Phoenix Fan Fusion, the hottest convention in Arizona!

What else were we gonna do with our summer, melt?
