Conventions come and conventions go. Largely, it’s going to feel like more have went than you’ve really gotten to go to. DEEP-HELL was originally us writing about convention culture, but of course got steamrolled by our tendency to instead write about anything we wanted to at any point in time.
Why did we wanna write about conventions so bad? We’d just split from a website with a similar focus, and probably felt like that’s all we could do.

Getting into the little bit of music writing, a little bit culture, some comics here and there. Those felt like things that had to happen so we didn’t get stuck in the rut of writing about getting wasted on hotel rooftops over and over again.

That’s a thing that can happen at an Anime Convention. Or a Comic Convention, but probably not a rock and gem show. In fact, if you’re a high functioning alcoholic with substance abuse issues who also likes to dabble in some Testament of Sister New Devil and you haven’t been to an anime convention by now, they’re a good way to meet people who have the same interests and/or substance abuse issues.

DEEP-HELL . Com advocates that people you meet at events organized around the communal enjoyment of Japanese Cartoons can be trustworthy and connections you make for your entire life, but they’re also people that were standing right behind you when you purchased that embarrassing body pillow featuring the character who’s chest you want to touch. You kind of nervously laughed the whole time, playing the whole affair off as some kind of joke, like you weren’t seriously going to lay next to it and put your arms around it during the bad times.

Those are the kind of people that you can be honest with yourself around, but that’s really why we appreciate conventions for just existing. It’s sometimes rare in the world to find people who like the things you do, or look like you. Maybe you really do want to talk to people about your campaign in the early 90’s edition of Star Wars The Official Roleplaying Game. The world, cold as it is, is really made better when we can be around people who we can be ourselves with.

Remember to take care of yourself, and do things that you enjoy.
